Memorandum of Understanding

Signed in Chiangmai between the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the Prime Minister of Thailand on the establishment of MTJA to explore and exploit resources in the Joint Development Area.
   
30 May 1990
Agreement on the Constitution of MTJA
Signed in Kuala Lumpur between the Foreign Minister of Malaysia and the Foreign Minister of Thailand providing detailed implementation framework for the MTJA.
   
22 January 1991
Simultaneous promulgation of the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Authority Act 1990 (Act 440) in Malaysia and the Thailand-Malaysia Joint Authority Act B.E. 2533 in Thailand.

Appointments of first Co-Chairmen and Members of MTJA by the respective Governments.

Set-up of MTJA Head Office in Kuala Lumpur.

Appointment of first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the MTJA, Mr. Charu-Udom Ruangsuvan from Thailand for a 4-year term. (October 1992 - September 1996).
   
21 April 1994
Signing of two Production Sharing Contracts between MTJA and its Contractors for Block A-18 and Blocks B-17 & C-19 for the right to explore and exploit petroleum in the respective blocks of the JDA.

May - July 1994
Set-up of two Joint Operating Companies by the Production Sharing Contractors :
- Carigali-Triton Operating Company (CTOC) as operator of
- Block A-18.
- Carigali-PTTEPI Operating Company (CPOC) as operator of
- Blocks B-17 & C-19.

October 1994
2D seismic survey in the JDA completed with over 11,910 line-km of geophysical data.

   

1995
Appointments of second Thai Co-Chairman of MTJA, H.E. Mr. Bhichai Rattakul.

   
10 February 1995
Protocol Amending the Agreement between Malaysia and Thailand for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes and Incomes relating to the Joint Development Area or the MTJA was signed in Bangkok.
August 1995
First Gas Discovery confirmed in Block A-18 of the JDA after CTOC successfully drilled and completed well Cakerawala-1A.
November 1995
Gas discovery confirmed in Block B-17 of the JDA after CPOC successfully drilled and completed Muda-1 well.

1996
Appointments of second Malaysian Co-Chairman of MTJA, Tan Sri Datuk Ahmad Kamal Jaafar.

30 May 1996
Two Memorandums of Understanding on Sales and Purchase of Natural Gas from the JDA Block A-18 and from JDA Blocks B-17 & C-19 were signed in Kuala Lumpur between MTJA & the Contractors as the Sellers and PTT & PETRONAS as the Buyers.

1 October 1996
Appointment of the second Chief executive Officer of MTJA from Malaysia for a 4-year term. (Oct. 1996 - Sep.2000).

1996 - 1997
19,500 line-km (620 sq.km) of 3D seismic acquired by CTOC over the Cakerawala structure in Block A-18.
30,000 line-km (1,132 sq.km) of 3D seismic acquired by CPOC over Muda and Tapi structures in Block B-17.
17,900 line-km (546 sq.km) of 3D seismic acquired by CTOC over the Bumi and Suriya structures in Block A-18.
21,507 line-km (806 sq.km) of 3D seismic acquired by CPOC over the Amarit, Jengka and Bumi north structures in Block B-17.

1997
Appointments of third Thai Co-Chairman of MTJA, H.E. Mr. Sivavong Changkasiri (Deceased on 8 March 2009).

December 1997
MTJA Board approved 3 years exploration extension period for Block A-18 and Blocks B-17 & C-19 from April 1999 to April 2002.
